Why Did You Start A Dreadlock Business?

Why Did You Start A Dreadlock Business?

The answer is easy, when I was 16 there was an explosion of scene kids, Tumblr models and Kandi kids that all had vibrant colourful hair. The ones that really caught my eye were the ones that had rainbow coloured dreadlocks and I was dying to have them so I asked my mom if I could get them. I ran into a couple problems after I had begged my mom to buy me some, first of all, we lived on a farm in rural Saskatchewan so there was nobody around to make or install them for me. Second problem was we didn't exactly have a ton of money to be spending on dreadlocks for a teenager that changes their mind 20 times a day. Long story short I was never able to get my dearly beloved dreadlocks and soon forgot all about it as teenagers do.

Fast forward to when I'm in my 20's, again I see another boom of posts on the internet of badass looking dreadlocks and once more I am absolutely in love with the look. At this time I am now living on my own in the big city where I make my own money, have access to stylists who can install it but to my dismay I don't have $600 kicking around to spend on hair. Unfortunately a girls got to eat before she spends 3/4 of a rent payment on wanting some sick ass hair and once again I am unable to get my dream hair.

Quite a few years go by, along with many big life changes and there I am attending university while also being quite pregnant with my second child when I stumble across a popular TikTok creator making dreadlocks. An idea pops into my head, to hell with buying dreadlocks when I can just make my own! So began my endeavour, I scoured the internet for every video on how to make dreadlocks and went out and bought a few bundles of hair to try my hand at making them. To my surprise it was fairly easy and I created myself a couple of sets, installed them and so began my complete obsession with them. After creating a few sets for myself quite a few people approached me to ask if I would make them some as well and soon I started to get more and more orders for custom sets. That is when I decided to start up a business, I made a ballsy move and took a portion of my student loan to put towards creating a legitimate business. I spent countless hours creating my website, filing legal paperwork, scouring the internet for distributors and creating social media content to spread the word about Pandoras Lox Dread Shop's opening.

Now here we are today, I've created so many sets for people who have had the same dream as me and I've shipped my custom sets all across the world. I've attended festivals and met so many new people by taking this crazy leap into becoming my own boss and starting my own business. I've helped make dreams come true for people by ensuring my dreadlock sets are not super expensive because I want everyone to feel the same absolute joy that I did when I installed my first set. The confidence it brought me and how amazing it felt to finally be able to style my hair after so many years of just tossing my natural hair into a messy bun because I couldn't figure out how to do it. I'm so beyond grateful to those who have purchased a dreadlock set from me because not only am I making a dream come true for them but they are also helping me live out a lifelong dream as well.

Thank you once again everyone! :)
