Itchy Scalp? Braid Bumps? Oh My!

Look at you go, you've finally got that gorgeous new set of dreadlocks installed and have been loving your new look every time you look in the mirror. One day you start to notice your scalp getting a bit itchy and suddenly you feel a bunch of painful little bumps, what the hell!? Don't panic as this is a very common occurrence and especially so if this is your first time having dreadlock extensions installed. There are a few different ways to help ease the itchy scalp and various different products online that once can use. Personally I don't use any as I've found that just powering through it works for me as it only lasts a little over a week and afterwards I no longer have any issues. Doing this means I have less product build up and I don't have to worry about having a reaction to testing out new products. This method may not work for some people so I recommend checking out Dolly Locks as it works for so many people but always check ingredients in case you may be allergic to some. As for the dreaded braid bumps, these can be quite uncomfortable and may be very noticeable. Braid bumps appear due to the tension on your hair with the added extra weight from the dreadlocks but usually go away in about a week.
Now you're probably wondering why would someone want dreadlocks if it means you're going to have to deal with an itchy scalp and painful braid bumps that everyone can see. Great question, luckily these little pains in the butt don't last for very long and the more you install dreadlocks the easier it gets. It's much the same as say waxing body hair, the first time you wax is always an experience where you want to cry but the times after that start to seem like a cake walk. Unfortunately with braid bumps I haven't found much of a cure that helps get rid of them besides not touching or itching them. If the braid bumps are prominent around my hairline I apply some Polysporin to the especially painful bumps and wear a thick headband to help hide them. Again, have no fear those braid bumps will soon disappear!
