Why The F Do My Dreads Keep Slipping!?

Why The F Do My Dreads Keep Slipping!?

So you spent the last 4-6 hours installing your new set yourself and they look gorgeous but then a few days later you notice the gap between your scalp and the dread. What the hell happened!? Let me explain.

First of all if this is your very first time installing them by yourself don't feel too bad as it took me 3 complete installs to finally get the knack of it. Doing it yourself is incredibly difficult the first few times especially if you're like me and have an absolute bitch of a time trying to braid your own natural hair. I personally am not a fan of the 3 strand braid when it comes to dreads as I have found that the dreads tend to start slipping super fast so instead I use the blanket stitch. Obviously I'm not going to be able to describe this method very well but I have included an instructional video by Lilliths Locs that expertly shows how to do the blanket stitch method.

For some it may look to be incredibly difficult but I promise once you get the hang of it you'll thank me later. I find the blanket stitch method to be so incredibly easy now that I was actually able to do a full install with 1.5 inch nails. I almost had 3 mental breakdowns but I did it! Braiding in your dreadlocks this way will not only help them to stay in longer but it will also give the install a much cleaner look as well. I find that using the blanket stitch not only prevents slipping but it also helps take care of any pesky fly-aways that sometimes escape the braids.

Now wipe your tears and let's try this again with the blanket stitch, you got this!
